3 Things to Stop Doing When You’re Feeling Burnt Out

You never once imagined that working your dream job would make you miserable. When you first started, you were keen to learn and know everything.

You would participate in every team meeting. You would ask your colleagues a dozen questions every day. You would ask for more work once you were done.

However, after working for a year and a half, you feel the passion for your job being drained out of you.

There are deadlines, complex projects and a mountain of stress to deal with. You’re burning out and don’t know what to do.

You’re not sure why your zeal for your work has started diminishing. It is, however, an indicator that you need to stop pushing yourself. If you’re burning out, avoid making these mistakes:

1. Taking on More Than You Can Handle

It’s understandable that you have your eye on that promotion. It’s understandable that you want to be in your boss’s good graces.

However, prioritizing your health is important. It can help you achieve your goals more efficiently. When you’re mentally exhausted, your performance will also suffer. You won’t be able to concentrate on work.

2. Not Getting Rest

If your mind and body are shutting down, it’s time to listen to them. The best way to deal with a burnout is by sleeping it off. Take as much time as you need to rest. If you feel like you can’t work, stop and ask for a day off.

When your mind’s refreshed and you no longer feel tired, break down every task and take your time working on them.

3. Disconnect From the Digital World

Disconnect From the Digital World - 3 Things to Stop Doing When You’re Feeling Burnt Out

Sometimes stress from our personal life can affect our professional life. Work-life balance is important. However, if you’re struggling with creating a balance, try disconnecting from the digital world for a few days.

Log off of social media and take a deep breath. You’ll find that when you’re not worried about what’s on your Facebook feed, you’ll feel more relaxed.

This’ll allow you to focus on more important things, like growing personally and professionally.

You can also mute people you don’t want to hear from and manually change your social media settings so you don’t have to deal with certain stories on your feed.
